HOW DID THE INDUSTRY CHANGE DUE TO CORONAVIRUS?

Covid-19 crisis has affected our lifestyle, but also our view on nutrition and taking conscience of its importance. This can be observed in the sector’s changes in trends that 2020 has brought us and what will grow stronger in 2021.

The first point we want to focus on are all these products and functional foods that support our immune and gut microbiota, such as multivitamins or supplements with vitamin C, D and zinc, which have seen their sales increase in local shops just as much as on the internet. The client looks for an optimal immune system, in the absence of an effective treatment. In countries such as New Zealand, a 300% increase in food supplements sells was observed. This pattern will continue during next year.

The products used to bring well-being and plants associated with calm and relaxing effects have also seen their sells escalate, due to an increase in the number of people with trouble sleeping, with anxiety or fear caused by the current economic and health situation. In 2021 foods that provide mental welfare will keep on rising.

Another trend to highlight is the importance to create sustainable, plant-based and without additives goods, where we are aware of their origin. Also, e-commerce will gain ground, so pharmacies and herbalists will not be the only reference selling point of food supplements. Web pages and efficient logistic systems will become a must in the industrial development of 2021.

Lleó would like to wish you a healthy new year and a successful adjustment to the new trends.
