Through a new Decree, the government has established the obligation of adding an additional caution sentence in every food containing substances, preparations or extracts of any plant in the turmeric genus.<\/p>\n<p>This warning will be found in the label of the products, and it is aimed to people presenting liver or biliary malfunction, as well as gallbladder stones, with the main purpose of advising against taking it and avoiding cases as the ones mentioned above. It also indicates that, in case of being on medications, the consumer should consult the doctor before.<\/p>\n<p>Because of this Italian Decree from the 26<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0of July, the Spanish Food Safety and Nutrition Agency (in Spanish\u00a0<em>Agencia Espa\u00f1ola de Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutrici\u00f3n<\/em>, AESAN) is conducting a\u00a0<strong>risk evaluation<\/strong>\u00a0investigation to define the maximum dosage of curcumin considered safe, following the steps of countries such as Ireland or Sweden, where a maximum dosage has already been established.<\/p>\n<p>Nowadays the acceptable daily intake (ADI) for curcumin is 210 mg (for an average 70 kg adult) and therefore we will await for a resolution on the maximum daily dosage established or if the Committee will consider another type of resolution, like Italy, with a caution sentence on the label.<\/p>\n<p>Lle\u00f3 will follow closely the development of the evaluation, in order to report on any new information that turns up regarding turmeric products.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Due to the appearance of various cases of cholestasic hepatitis in Italy, the Italian Health Department has reviewed and updated its regulation regarding the curcumin.
